The goblin king was made for a lord of the ring sugar collaboration.
I chose this character for his intricate, gnarly and discusting side. I wanted to challenge myself and create something that was as close as possible from the real king.I wanted to achieve the illusion of weight and strengh
The body is cake covered with homemade modeling chocolate. I used all my left over from other project so the original paste ended up grey.
The arm are support by wires and wood dowels were also needed to support all their weight. The left arm is also support by the staff.
The nails, horns, skulls, crown and hairs are all saracino modeling paste. The pimples were all handpiped with royal icing.
Everything was handpaint with karen portaleo paints. The shininess was achieved with edible glaze from sugar flower studio.
finally, the loin cloth and the leather strings form the staff, including the ones that support the skulls, are homemade edible fabric.
You need to trust the process... Here are few pictures that I took while I was making it. He took me a whole month to create. But it totally worth it!
